While Randy creates the floral designs and decorates the store, Scott runs the business side and makes sure the bills are paid. Randy’s first florist job was at age 16 and he has been a floral designer for over 40 years. He realized at a very young age that he had a flair for floral design and wanted to make it his career.

For many years Randy participated in A Carolina Christmas Show, held at the Raleigh Convention Center, and was the show director from 1996 to 2004. His outrageous Christmas Tree designs, such as a Marilyn Monroe tree, a Chinese-themed tree with a 3-D tiger kite jumping through the top of the tree, and a bejeweled Christmas tree covered with imitation diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires with a chandelier at the top, were a hit with the public.

In 2004, Randy opened Abbington-Wolfe Florist & Interiors on Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield, and later moved to Third Street downtown. While there, he was the official florist for the Ava Gardner Museum.

As for Scott, his parents owned a gas station and convenience store when he was growing up and they taught him about running a business. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1987, Scott moved to Boston and spent eight years working in accounting. He later returned to North Carolina to pursue a master’s degree in American History at Western Carolina University and another master’s degree in Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. After grad school, Scott spent many years working for a large insurance company, and in 2021, he retired to join Randy in running their new business.
